Smart glasses in Switzerland — what really matters when you buy.

The market for smart glasses is growing rapidly — and with it the confusion. Camera or display? Subscription or one-off purchase? Import or Swiss retailer? A hands-on guide from our showroom in Zürich.

Two worlds: camera glasses and display glasses

Anyone searching for "smart glasses" today finds two fundamentally different product categories. Camera glasses film and photograph what you see — handy for social media, but quickly a problem in meetings, on the train or in conversation: the person opposite never knows whether they are being recorded. Display glasses like the Even G2 take the opposite approach: they show information to you — navigation, translations, notes, messages — without building in a camera.

For everyday life in Switzerland, where discretion and data protection are highly valued, that is a decisive difference: the Even G2 looks like a high-quality designer pair of glasses, weighs barely more and shows its holographic display so that only the wearer can see it.

The checklist for buying

  • Comfort: a pair of smart glasses is no use if it pinches after an hour. Trying them on before buying is a must — form and weight determine everyday use.
  • Prescription: check whether prescription lenses are available. For the Even G2 there are UltraFit lenses as a single-vision and varifocal version.
  • Follow-up costs: some manufacturers tie core features to subscriptions. With Even Realities all features are included in the purchase price.
  • Language: translation and AI features should master your language — the Even G2 translates in real time, including into English.
  • Warranty and service: with an import you handle warranty cases with the manufacturer overseas. With the Swiss partner you have a local point of contact.

Import or Swiss retailer?

Direct import seems tempting at first glance, but rarely pays off: on top of the exchange rate and shipping come import VAT and, where applicable, customs clearance fees — and in a warranty case the parcel goes back across the Atlantic. As an authorised Even Realities partner we ship from within Switzerland, in Swiss francs, with Swiss VAT and personal warranty handling in Zürich. The Even G2 costs CHF 699.– including the case, the Even R1 smart ring CHF 269.–.

Try them on instead of guessing

Smart glasses are a product you need to get your hands on. In our showroom at Zeltweg 74 in Zürich — between Kreuzplatz and the Kunsthaus — you try on both forms of the G2, test navigation, translation and Even AI live and get all your questions about prescription lenses answered. Appointments by arrangement; the advice is free and without obligation.

Smart glasses in everyday Swiss life: three scenes

What does that feel like in practice? Scene one, Paradeplatz, 8:12 am: you are heading to an appointment, navigation shows "left in 250 m" — eyes ahead, hands free, no phone. Scene two, meeting room, 2 pm: your colleague from London speaks quickly; the translation runs along as a subtle line and you stay in the conversation instead of in the dictionary. Scene three, stage, 7 pm: your talk scrolls along as a teleprompter — the audience sees an elegant pair of glasses and free speaking, nothing else.

This everyday practicality is the yardstick by which smart glasses must be measured — not the feature list. That is why, in case of doubt, we always recommend trying them on with a live demo: ten minutes with the glasses on your nose say more than any product page, ours included.
