Nobody wants to unbox a pair of glasses and find their phone shrugs at them. So let's settle it the way you'd settle it for a friend: what actually has to be true for the Even G2 to pair with the phone already in your pocket.
Short answer: If you own an iPhone that can run iOS 16 or later (that's the iPhone 8 and newer), the Even Realities app is within spec. If you own a reasonably current Android phone, there's an official app on Google Play — and the only test that truly counts is whether that app installs and completes pairing on your handset. The connection itself is ordinary Bluetooth, which every modern phone has.
Why the phone matters more than the glasses
The Even G2 is not a standalone computer. It's a camera-free display that leans on your phone for its brain, its data connection and — through the Even Realities app — nearly everything you configure. So "will the glasses work?" is really "will the app run, and will it pair?" Two questions, two clean answers.
iPhone: one number to remember
The Even Realities app on the App Store states it requires iOS 16.0 or later. Any iPhone that Apple still lets update to iOS 16 or beyond clears the bar — in practice the iPhone 8, iPhone SE (2nd generation) and everything newer. If you're carrying anything from the last several years, you're fine. The app is listed as "Designed for iPhone", and it's a sizeable download (around 565 MB when we checked), so leave it some storage headroom.

Android: don't trust a single version number
Here's where we'll be more careful than most write-ups. There is a proper Even Realities app on Google Play, so Android is genuinely supported — this isn't an iPhone-only product. But Android is a thousand phones wearing one name. A headline "requires Android X" figure tells you less than you'd hope, because manufacturer skins, background-app policies and Bluetooth stacks differ wildly between, say, a Samsung, a Xiaomi and a Fairphone.
So we won't quote you a version number we can't stand behind. The honest, reliable test is simpler and better: does the app install from Google Play on your exact phone, and does it finish pairing? If both are true, you're compatible in the only sense that matters. If you'd like, do it in our showroom with your own handset in hand — five minutes, no purchase, no pressure.
The five-minute self-check
Before you buy — from us or anyone — run this. It costs nothing and removes the only real uncertainty.
- Check your OS version. iPhone: Settings › General › About › Software Version — you want 16 or higher. Android: Settings › About phone › Android version.
- Open the store listing. Search "Even Realities" on the App Store or Google Play and see whether it says your device is supported at all.
- Install the app. If it downloads and opens without a "not compatible with this device" message, the software half is settled.
- Confirm Bluetooth. Any phone from roughly the last decade has the Bluetooth Low Energy the glasses use. If Bluetooth turns on, this box is ticked.
- Pair a demo unit. The decisive step: pair to real glasses. Everything up to here is theory; a successful pairing is proof. Do it in the Zürich showroom with your own phone.
One subtlety worth knowing on Android. Some Android skins are aggressive about "optimising" battery by suspending background apps. If notifications ever arrive late on the glasses, that's almost never an incompatibility — it's the phone throttling the Even app. Whitelisting the app from battery optimisation usually fixes it. It's a settings tweak, not a reason to return the glasses.
Two phones, one pair of glasses?
A question we get from people with a separate work and personal phone: can one pair follow you between both? The short version is that Bluetooth accessories generally bond to one phone at a time, so switching isn't as seamless as some hope. So: buy, skip, or test first?
Buy without worry if you have an iPhone on iOS 16+ or a mainstream Android phone from the last few years and you've confirmed the app installs. That covers the overwhelming majority of buyers.
Pause if your daily phone is genuinely old — pre-iOS 16, or an Android device that no longer gets updates. The glasses may still pair, but you're building on a phone that's aging out, and the app requirement will only climb over time.
