The moment of truth is not in the shop — it is when you already have the glasses on and pull a helmet over your head, and the temple arms suddenly dig into your temples. Or when you put on an over-ear headset and realise the ear cup has swallowed the glasses' tiny speaker entirely. These are not product faults; it is simply the physics of two things sharing the same patch of head and ear. Let us go through them one at a time.
Short answer: The Even G2 is a light everyday pair of glasses, not a piece of sports or safety equipment — and you feel that the moment a helmet, over-ear headphones or ear defenders join in. With a bike or ski helmet they are usually wearable, but with compromises on pressure and on getting them on and off. With over-ear headphones and ear defenders the combination is awkward: the cup presses on the temple arm and covers the open audio, and with hearing protection the temple also breaks the protective seal. In-ear buds coexist with no physical conflict. Because none of this is standardised, one rule matters above all: try it with your own gear.
Why it clashes at all
A pair of glasses rests at three points: the nose and behind the two ears. Those rear rest points — the temple arms — are the bottleneck. The G2 temples carry electronics, hinges and the open speakers that fire sound sideways towards the ear without sealing the ear canal. The moment a helmet strap, an ear cup or a hearing-protection muff wants the same strip of head, two things meet that both want to be there. That is the whole conflict in one sentence — and the reason the answer changes from device to device.
One point up front, which Even states explicitly and we take seriously: do not bend the temples yourself to make room. They contain technology that a rough correction can damage. If it pinches, the fix is different gear or a professional adjustment — not a pair of pliers.

Bike and ski helmet
A modern bike or ski helmet sits low and closes with a strap system that runs along the side of the head and around the ears — that is, straight across the glasses' temples. It usually works: the G2 is light and slim, and plenty of riders wear it under a helmet without anything shifting. The honest compromises are two. First, pressure: a snug helmet presses the temples into the sides of your head, which can turn uncomfortable on a long ride. Second, getting them on and off: glasses first, then helmet — and if you want to take the glasses off mid-ride, you usually have to loosen the helmet. Skiing adds a hard no: the display glasses will not fit under a sealed ski goggle, and over it they make no sense. For a ski day that means glasses on the lift and in the lodge rather than on the slope behind the goggle.
Over-ear headphones and headsets
This is where it gets uncomfortable, on two counts. The ear cup of an over-ear headphone or gaming headset lands exactly where the temple tip rests behind the ear. That drives the temple into your head — noticeably after a while — and the clamping force of the cup wears on the ear over time. Then there is the second, often-missed point: the G2's open speakers fire sound from the outside towards your ear. A closed over-ear cup covers precisely that path, muffles the glasses' audio and mixes it with whatever the headphones are playing. In short: both devices make audio, both want the same ear region, and neither wins. For desk video calls, where you are wearing a headset anyway, the glasses' speakers are simply the wrong tool — use the headset for audio and the glasses at most for the teleprompter or notifications in your line of sight.
Ear protection — the exception where safety comes first
Ear defenders of the muff type, as worn on a building site, a shooting range or in a workshop, work through a tight cushion sealing around the ear. Slide a temple arm underneath and you break exactly that seal — and the attenuation drops. This is not a comfort matter but a safety one: where hearing protection is required, it takes priority over the glasses, not the other way round. We say so plainly because the G2 is no solution here and we will not pretend it is. In-ear plugs are the compatible route: they sit in the ear canal and do not collide with the temples. Only then the glasses' open audio becomes pointless, because your ears are deliberately closed — though the display and notifications carry on working.
Where the open-audio design helps
A fair point in its favour: because the G2 uses open speakers rather than in-ear plugs, it does not block the ear. In situations where you need to hear your surroundings — traffic, cycling, a conversation — that is a genuine advantage over sealing earphones. The catch is precisely the flip side we described above: the moment you deliberately cover the ear, with a cup or a plug, the open speakers lose their purpose. The open design is built for everyday life with an unblocked ear, not for running under a cover.
So: buy, skip, or test first?
Buy with confidence if you mostly wear the glasses with an unblocked ear, add a helmet only occasionally, and can use in-ear buds for audio when you need it. For most of daily life — office, city, commuting, the occasional bike ride — the combination is unproblematic.
Think twice if your main scenario is all-day use under a snug helmet, a workplace with mandatory ear defenders, or a job where you wear an over-ear headset continuously. In those cases the glasses and the gear work against each other.
Test before you buy is almost mandatory here, because no spec sheet knows your combination. Bring your own helmet and your own headset to the Zürich showroom and put both on together.
